School Counseling Services
Classroom GuidanceClassroom guidance lessons are taught in student's homeroom class, with the intent to educate students in the three main areas of school counseling: academic, personal-social, and career. The use of developmentally appropriate books and creative activities such artwork, games, acting, and writing are integrated into these K-5 standards-based lessons. Lesson topics include goal setting, bully prevention, conflict resolution, friendship skills, diversity and career exploration.

Small Group CounsleingSmall group counseling is offered to students who are struggling with similar issues, such as divorce, anxiety, friendship skills, anger management, grief, self-esteem, social skills, and motivation. These groups are screened to ensure the best possible small group counseling experience for each child and are held for 6-8 weeks, once per week for 30-45 minutes.

Individual CounselingIndividual counseling is provided to students who are struggling personally, socially, and academically. As with any counseling, school based counseling is confidential. Mrs. Alexander uses person-centered, solution-focused counseling theories to listen and reflect student's situations. This provides students with a chance to be heard and find solutions themselves. Individual counseling in schools typically lasts 6-8 weeks.

Other roles of Professional School Counselors
Intervention Team Facilitator: Students who are struggling academically and far below their grade level peers, even after research-based interventions have been provided in Tier II, are referred to Tier III. In Tier III research-based interventions are used and the student is progress monitored weekly, the student's team will meet and problem solve to target and support the student every 4-6 weeks.

504 Coordinator: students with disabilities are granted equal education under The Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (Title II) and 2008. Under these guidelines students with disabilities can be granted a 504 plan, which provides anti-discrimination protection and accommodations for an equal education.
